RestStopsNearMe is an independent directory of public rest areas, welcome centers and service plazas on U.S. highways. It lists 1,320 locations in 45 states, each with the highway, the direction of travel it serves, its facilities and, where reported, the number of car and truck parking spaces.
Why this site exists
Finding a rest area sounds simple until you are on the road: a stop that looks close on a map can be on the other side of a divided highway, closed for construction, or too small for a truck or RV. We built this directory to answer the questions drivers actually have before they pull off: Is it on my side? What is there? How long may I stay? When was this information checked?
How the directory works
- Data comes from official state transportation departments where they publish it, from the federal National Transportation Atlas Database for truck parking, and from OpenStreetMap where no official list exists. The data sources page lists every source.
- Every fact on a location page comes from a named source. Facilities that no source mentions are shown as unknown, never as missing.
- Closures are shown with the date they were checked. We do not show a rest area as "open" unless a source says so.
- Parking time limits come from state law, administrative code or the state transportation department, with the source named.
The editorial policy explains how we combine sources, name locations and handle corrections.
Independence
RestStopsNearMe is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by any state department of transportation, toll road authority or federal agency. Official names and data are used to describe public facilities. Always follow posted signs and official closure information.
