A public rest area is run by the state: parking, restrooms and often picnic areas, usually without fuel, food or showers, and often with a time limit. A truck stop is a private business with diesel, food, showers and larger lots; parking there may be free for customers or reserved for a fee. This page lists public rest areas only.

Hours of service: when you need a parking spot

• Before driving, take 10 consecutive hours off duty.
• After that you may drive up to 11 hours, within a 14-hour window that starts when you come on duty.
• After 8 hours of driving, take a break of at least 30 consecutive minutes.
• Weekly limit: 60 hours on duty in 7 days or 70 hours in 8 days, depending on your carrier; 34 consecutive hours off duty restart the period.
